08/21/16 River Report
River Flow 148 CFS - Visibility Clear - AM Water Temp 72'F. - Sunny with a high near 75. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph with some higher gusts although it is calm here in the valley now.  - WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO COME UP AND FISH! The rains last night will likely have the river on the rise slightly and tonight is supposed to get below 50' which will help the trout and bring the ISOs out early in the evening- We have had quite a few successful wading guide trips going out in the past few days for smallmouths in the upper TMA and below the RT 4 & 7 concrete bridge. - Try some flying ants today and watch the bass rise to the end of your line. The streamers & poppers that we have been fishing with are taking some nice numbers on smallies. - The pike, bass and carp fishing is hot right now at the power house in Falls Village. - Fishing above the dam by boat has also been producing some nice pike and smallmouths. - Today is a perfect day to get up here and throw your favorite popper on the stream for some of those big smallies. - With this flow it's a good opportunity to fish pools and riffles that are normally unwadeable. - This is the time of year to come up to study the HOUSY river bottom structure and understand how the fishing holes are laid out. - Don't forget to take pictures of the river bottom with landmarks for future reference. - Besides the BASS FISHING IS GREAT!!

Iso's are back! - Bass Popper Bite Is HOT during the day and into the evening!! -  Look for Bass  behind exposed boulders in all the riffles & pools. - Carp are very active in the TMA. - Try dragging some Woolly Buggers, crawfish or Big Stone Fly Nymphs by them. - Fish the side channels of the power house in Falls Village for Bass or Carp. - Lot's of exposed river structure to target at the power house - Popper & Streamer fishing is the way to go during daylight hours.

AM River Water Temp 72' - River Flow 148 CFS. - Morning Air Temp 64'- Today's Air Temp High 75' - Tonight's Air Temp Low 49' - Remember from June 15th until September 15th the mouths of tributaries that are  posted by the DEEP are closed to fishing (Look for White DEEP No Fishing Signs). There is a Emergency Fishing Closure in effect as of 08/18/16 for eight tributaries entering the Farmington River starting with East Mountain Brook in New Hartford at the RT 219 Bridge down river to Hyde Brook in Farmington. This was done to create a temporary thermal refuge for the fish. Further information on these closures is available on the CT DEEP website.
