11/21/16 River Report
River Flow 456 CFS - Visibility Clear - AM Water Temp 42'F. - We received our first dump of snow here over the weekend with some of the higher spots seeing over 12". Here on the banks of the Housy we had between 4-6". While you may right off fishing today why not take a drive see the winter wonderland around us and warm up by our woodstove and get some Holiday shopping done early. We have some good deals available only in store! A chance of snow showers, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. - Search the water in the morning by swinging streamers to find Rainbows and Browns. - Then switch over to a big Stone Fly nymph with an Egg dropper and fish the water more closely. - Egg Patterns are fishing well as trout are into spawning mode. - At this time of year it's best to get on the river a little later in the morning. - This gives the sun a chance to warm up the river a couple degrees. - The fish will become more active in the slightly warmer water. - HOUSY Trout are putting on the fall feed bag !!
Try nymphing deep during the day with a two fly rig.- On your two fly nymph rig start with Rubber Leg Stone Fly nymph and an Egg Pattern as a dropper. - Streamer fishing is a great way to cover water and to find fish. - Swing streamers for Trout behind exposed boulders in all the deeper riffles & pools. - Then go back and deep nymph over any river section that produced takes on streamers.
