Who has better fishing days then Housatonic Fly Fishermen !! Our mornings on the Housy are going into Fall mode with heavy morning fog shrouding the river. - When this happens look for the BWO hatch. - With the lower river flows and bright daytime sun light; Nymph the riffles and pocket water. Towards late afternoon when the shadow line touches the river then it's ISO time !! On overcast rainy days we are starting to see some BWO's on the river. Flying ants are also making their appearance on the river !! This morning fish were sipping small Sulphurs.

Cool Nights and Shorter Days are keeping the river temps down for trout in the TMA. !! Who has better fishing days then Housatonic Fly Fishermen !! Start off swinging streamers to find aggressive Trout. During bright daytime sun light; Nymph or Swing Streamers in all the riffles and pocket water. Towards late afternoon when the shadow line touches the river then it's ISO time !! On overcast rainy days we are starting to see some BWO's on the river. Flying ants are also making their appearance on the river !! As of today; 09/16/17; Trout Thermal Refuges are now open to fishing.

River Flow 298 CFS - Visibility - Clear - River Report - We got some needed rain last night - up to 283 cfs - still good visibility - the fishing is unbelievable - best fall I can remember for 10 years - great hatches - Iso's - BWO's late season sulfurs - fly ants and some other mixed in - swing wet flies - stoneflies - and big streamers - nice weekend of conditions coming up.Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. - AM Water Temp 60' - AM Air Temp 53' - Daytime High 79' - PM Air Temp Low 63'

Cooler nights has brought down the river temps and put the Housy in perfect shape for Autumn Trout Fishing. - We are streamer fishing for Trout thru out the TMA !! Concentrate on swinging in all the riffles during bright days. - Overcast skies and chance of rain has been starting to bring on the Fall BWO hatches.
It's a beautiful Friday morning up here on the Housy. The fog has burned off and the sun is warming the cool morning air. The water is at a great level and temperature for fishing. Look for flying ants as the trout have been keying in on them. The ISO hatch has also been good so make sure you have some nymphs and dries. You will also see some sulphurs and BWOs. Streamers and nymphs are also producing well especially in the morning.
