DRIFT-BOAT TRIPS - Framed Rafts and Driftboats
Due to river heights - we more often use our framed rafts for driftboat guide trips on the Housatonic River.
We were the first guide service to offer this on the river! - We now have 6 driftboats to take you on guide trips on the Housatonic River.

Our Guides
David Bailey - Retired - loves to guide on the river and is a favorite for wade trips.
Scott Becroft - A Connecticut resident who has been guiding with us for 3 years - Specializes in driftboat fishing - Catches a lot of 22 inch Trout - or so he says.
Torrey Collins - Shop Manager - and local Euro and Czech nymphing expert - Torrey was one of the individuals who brought these nymphing strategies to the front page of fly fishing here in the east - his modesty has kept him in the background - unlike others - but he is an unsung hero of Euro Nymphing. He teaches a number of classes here in the store and is one of the finest nymph fishermen in the east - bar none.
Keith Godfrey - Another Boat Captain - Works for DEP - He has guided with us for 3 years and specializes in Warm Water Trophy Fishing. If you want to catch a trophy Pike on a fly - book Keith.
Alex Hvatsky - Loves to Wade fish - has fished the Housatonic for 25 years and has guided with the shop for 10.
Jerry Gourd - Loves to wade fish - an engineer by profession - and has been guiding with us for 10 years - He has an academic approach to fishing - so be prepared to learn a little.
Bert Ouellete - An antique dealer by profession - focuses on driftboat fishing - loves to cast a dryfly and prepares the best lunches out there. Bert has been guiding here for 5 years. Spends almost all his free-time casting to rising fish.
Bob Perrella - Johnny Trout-Seed - Retired - an excellent wade fishing guide - Adept on the Housatonic, Farmington and Shepaug Rivers. If he's not fishing for trout - he's stocking them.
Jim Plante - Jim specializes in the learning aspect of the sport - he teaches numerous tying, nymphing and fishing classes for the shop and is extremely patient with beginners. He has his own website dedicated to fly fishing. Jim has been guiding with us for 3 years.
Ethan Raskind - A former Colorado Guide - Ethan runs the majority of our diftboat trips and with his knowledge of the river and easy going nature is a favorite for getting into fish in tough conditions. Ethan has been guiding with us for 8 years.
Robert Scalzo - Our local Carp Commander - while being an excellent trout guide - utilizing European and Czech nymphing stratgies - he loves to fly-fish for carp.
Bob Scmidt - A retired tug boat captain - if you love to fish streamers and wetflies - he is the man - Bob is also excellent with kids and will take them either spin or fly fishing.

Pontoon Boat Float Option
The perfect alternative for one person float trips at a discounted price. Now you can use your own one man pontoon boat to access those places that are impossible to approach by wading. You will be floating side by side with one of our best guides to help you locate the best spots to fish and anchor your boat as well as assist you with fly selection and presentation instruction. Our guide will also supply his own personal back up rod to make changing from nymphing, streamer fishing, or dry fly presentations without wasting any time.
Your boat will be fully equipped with an anchoring system, rod holder, and personal cargo storage area. These "water taxies" are designed to be used with waders. Your can fish as you drift, or anchor, stand up from your seat and wade to make your best casting approach. After wading in one spot your taxi is waiting to go to another! Some rowing experience is preferred but not necessary. Full day trip includes lunch and beverages. Digital pictures will be emailed to you as a permanent record of the experience.

We are now offering drift boat trips for Smallmouth Bass & Big Pike in the Housatonic - this resource of the river does not get any pressure - so the fishing can be excellent - Trips start June 15th.

Each time I journey to fish a new body of water, I try to locate an experienced guide, either through the local fly shop or by a referral from one of my fishing partners. You can read all the books published on a given stream, river or lake and still not absorb 10% of what a guide can show you in one day on their home waters. A good guide is invaluable, they will educate you on the local fly patterns, entomology, fishing strategies and just as important, steer you in the right direction to a cold beer and a home-cooked meal. In all my years of fishing, I have always learned something valuable after spending a day with a guide.
At Housatonic River Outfitters, we have eight such handpicked guides. Whether you choose to fish the Housatonic River, Farmington River, Upper Naugatuck, Green River or many of the smaller tributaries and lakes, you will find these guides to be an invaluable resource for learning more about fishing these premier waters. These guides have more than half a century of fishing and guiding experience between them. They will meet you at the shop, get you outfitted with any equipment you need, help you with your casting or fishing techniques (if needed), supply you with a gourmet meal and then take you out for for your day of fishing. Always remember it's your day, so don't hesitate to tell us where you want to fish, what your quarry is (Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass and Pike) and any special diet requirements.
