FISHING TIPS
by Ron
Landis

Lots of people new to nymphing
use strike indicators. Under some circumstances, I
still use them because they can be a great help in
discerning the subtle takes that go on out of
sight.
I find beginner's, despite the obvious visual
cue of a fluorescent orange "cork" still miss
micro-movement of the indicators and allow the trout
to spit the fly without striking. Here's an idea to
enhance you're ability to detect strikes through an
indicator. Use two indicators a foot apart on the butt
section of the leader. The small takes by fish are
signaled by the indicators appearing to suddenly
separate. The cue is so dramatic, that even gentle
takes by a fish are more easily spotted.
Give it a try, it's the next best thing to visual
excitement of dry fly fishing.
